7 Ways to Start Off the New Year Right

As cliché as it sounds, the New Year is certainly the right time to start working on those things you said you’d do a while back…and never did. It’s the best time to start fresh and focus on what’s really important in your life.

You probably already have a list of “goals for 2019” and that’s always a good thing, but you should definitely have a game plan as well! After all, you do want to check off those goals right?

Think of the new year as a new day. You don’t want to start your day off slowly and without a task-list! It’s always best to start the day with a clear mind, a clean workspace and a task list that will keep you going! So that’s what this post will help you do to start off 2019 the right way 🙂

#1 Clean up your home/workspace/bedroom.

Clutter is not welcome in 2019! Get rid of old papers, unwanted clothing, shoes and random items around your home and workspace.

#2 Get your budget straightened out.

Figure out and finalize your weekly and monthly budget! You’ll step into 2019 prepared and ready to take on those bank statements.

#3 Create a workout schedule.

If one of your goals is to live a healthier lifestyle or workout more often, be specific and make a proper schedule so it actually happens. Make sure you create your workout schedule before the New Year starts. This will prevent you from saying “I’ll start tomorrow”, “I’ll start next week”, and so on.

#4 Detox.

Another part of living a healthy lifestyle is eating well. Detoxing right before or during the start of the New Year will get you in the right mindset to better your eating habits. This could be a one week diet cutting out sugar and processed foods, or it could even be a juice cleanse!

#5 Do a yearly review.

This one is a little time consuming but will leave you feeling confident about your new year goals. Review the past year and figure out what worked and didn’t work for you, socially, personally, health-wise, work-wise, etc. Ask yourself some of these questions:

Why didn’t I reach (x) goal last year?

What did I cut out that made me happier?

How did I improve my health?

What went well for me last year?

How did I improve my relationships?

#6 Finish what you started.

I feel like we all have a to-do list in the back of our mind that never actually gets checked off. If you’ve got one of these and the tasks can be completed within one day or maybe even a few hours, dedicate one full day to them. These tasks are usually centered around the following:

  • house chores
  • repairs (home, clothing, shoes)
  • car (oil change, brake check, clean)
  • purge/donate unwanted items

#7 Create a list of daily habits.

Think of a few small tasks that you want to accomplish each day and keep the list handy. It could be drinking 2L of water per day, working out for 30 minutes, or even praying for 10 minutes every morning!

How will you be starting 2019 off right? What are some of your goals for the New Year?

4 Ways to Feel Your Best Throughout the Day

We all know that some days are just better than others, but with a few tweaks in our daily schedules it’s possible to feel healthy and refreshed even on our busiest days. Whether it’s an early morning workout, a cup of herbal tea, or a few minutes of meditation there are so many ways to improve how you’re feeling during the day.

Below are little life hacks that you can add to your day to ensure that you’re always feeling your best!

  1. Drink naturally infused water throughout the day. Lemon water in particular is great for flushing out toxins and providing a boost of energy. If you get through the day without drinking sugary beverages, you’ll feel much better and more awake!
  2. Start your morning off with cardio. Even before you go to grab your breakfast, make it a goal to start your day off with a run or a skip rope session. By doing this you’ll feel more awake, hungry for breakfast (if you’re not a morning person), and ready to take on the day. It’s also nice to start your day off with a shower, so working out in the AM fits perfectly into that schedule.
  3. Use a clarity or focus spray before doing work. My bestie recently got me the Saje Mental Alertness Spray and I can’t stop using it! A few sprays of this helps to clear my mind and allows me to focus on my work longer.
  4. Put your devices away while eating. If you’re going to have a lunch break mid-day, put your phone or laptop aside and let yourself relax while you eat. Even if it’s just 15 minutes of silence and eating, it’ll help your brain to re-focus and you’ll be more productive afterwards.

1-Month Health & Fitness Journey

Hello lovely people! I’m so happy you’ve come across this post because it’s something that I’ve been wanting to share with you all for a very long time. Just like anyone else would I’m preparing for a tropical vacation that’s coming up very soon, and by preparing I mean getting my butt into shape! I’m generally very good about staying in shape (eating right and exercising) but I took a loooong 3-month break between July and October this year so now I have a little more work to do for my vacay.

My fitness journey is going to be exactly one month long, starting one month from the day that I hop on my plane. I will be watching very carefully what I eat and also starting my regular 5-7 days a week home workouts. Today I’d like to share with you what my eating schedule looks like in a day, meal and snack ideas, and the types of workouts that I’ll be doing.

If you’re going on a vacation over the holidays that includes swimwear and a beach and you feel like getting fit before you go then this post might be perfect for you! Let’s get in shape together shall we?!

WHAT MY EATING SCHEDULE LOOKS LIKE

*I eat every 2 to 3 hours to speed up my metabolism and ensure that I always have energy!*

Breakfast

Small Snack

Lunch

Small Snack

Dinner

Small Snack

(note that you shouldn’t be eating less than 2-3 hours before you sleep!)

MEAL & SNACK IDEAS

Aside from starting to workout again the other major change in my lifestyle during this fitness journey will be what I’m eating. I’ve decided to minimize the amount of carbohydrates that I eat as well as cut out as many sweets and junk food that I can (aside from the few cheat days that might occur). Here are the main foods that I will be holding back from for the month:

Breads

Pasta

Cookies

Cake

Quinoa

Potatoes

Candy

Juice and Pop (I don’t drink soda but I’ll include it anyway)

Ice-Cream

Some of these foods make up large parts of our everyday meals and snacks so below are some ideas on what you CAN eat!

Breakfast Options

Fried egg and avocado.

Egg whites with spinach, tomato, cheese.

Banana, strawberry, almond milk, vanilla breakfast shake smoothie.

2 slices of turkey bacon with a grilled avocado.

Mixed berries, almond milk, vanilla or strawberry breakfast shake smoothie.

Scrambled eggs with cheese, tomatoes, and mushrooms.

Seared tomatoes and mushrooms and fried egg.

Lunch Options

Pre-packed salads (with a small amount of dressing).

Sautéed veggies with kale & spinach sausage.

Seared tomatoes with sausage or other meat.

Spinach salad with mushrooms, tomato, and balsamic vinegar.

A lot of the time I just bring left over dinner for lunch which includes some form of meat (chicken, fish, pork) and a side of veggies or salad.

Dinner Options

I’m no chef so I don’t have any specific ideas for dinner, but I usually just eat some type of salad (caesar, kale, thai) with a portion of meat (chicken, fish, pork, beef).

Snack Options

Cherry tomatoes with sliced cheese

Half an apple with peanut butter

Banana (can be with peanut butter)

Small handful of almonds

Grapes and sliced cheese

Raw veggies

Raw fruits

WORKOUT SCHEDULE

When I really get into a proper schedule I usually workout 5-7 times a week alternating abs/arms days with full body days (abs/arms/legs). I always make sure to be energized with a small snack before my workouts and to drink water throughout as well. My workouts come before dinner and my last snack of the day! Let me know in the comments if you would like to see a list of the workouts I do.

I’m a firm believer in working hard for what you want and I guarantee that if you stay determined and on track you can definitely achieve your goals!
