Tips on Working from Home

Find out how to make the most out of working from home!

As someone who is constantly working from home, I’ve been able to figure out how to make the most out of my day. Most people think it’s working in your pjs from bed all day, but that’s definitely not the case. For me, a lot of thought is put into working from home because it’s THAT easy to curl right back up in bed.

I’ve tried sitting in bed all day working to get my task list checked off, and let me tell you now, it doesn’t work. I’ve also tried sleeping in and working later, but that wasn’t ideal either. In order to get my work done I need to wake up earlier, start my morning off with a boost of energy and tackle a to-do list one by one. Here are the ways that I get all of my work done at home.

Wake Up Early

This might mean something different to you, depending on when you usually get up, but for me it means 8 to 8:30am. I find that setting my alarm even an hour later than this (9am) prevents me from getting up right away. Being up with the rest of my household at 8am encourages me to make my bed, change my clothes and start the day.

Workout Right Away

I used to convince myself I couldn’t do this because I’d wake up hungry, too tired, etc, etc. However those were excuses and I’m glad I’ve put an end to them because working out as soon as I’m awake gets my blood flowing and helps me be more productive. Once the workout is over I can focus the rest of my day on what’s important. It doesn’t need to be a long workout, even 20-30 minutes will do you good!

If you workout you should probably shower too, but this is a win-win situation. If your sweat sesh didn’t wake you up, then a shower surely will! You’ll also be ready for the day in case you need to go out.

Prepare a Checklist

I find that physically writing down my to-do list the evening before really helps me to get things done the next day. Whether it’s on my whiteboard or a notebook, being able to prioritize and actually check things off throughout the day allows me to get more done. I also write down ideal times for getting things done, see my example below.

8am – wake up, workout, shower

9am – emails

10am – content creation for (brand)

Make Your Own Schedule

Every work shift has a start and an end time, so I try my best to do that for my own schedule too. If I’m waking up at 8am, having a workout, lunch break or running errands, then I’ll end my day around 5-6pm. However, in this industry your work is going on 24/7, so you just need to know when to stop answering your emails 😉 Knowing how to do this comes in handy when you have family or significant-other time planned.

I hope these tips help you get more done while working at home! If you have any other suggestions for increased productivity and organization please share them in a comment below! 🙂

The Blog Series: Comparing & Confidence

Have you ever compared yourself to someone on social media? Compared your life to theirs? Even compared the type of day you had to the day that they showed they had on IG? I have too, but I’m learning to stop comparing and instead be confident in what I’m doing because everyone is on their own journey and on a different chapter of their life. For this month’s Blog Series post I want to focus on the importance of being confident about one’s own work and content because I feel that it’s a big part of being successful in this industry. Not only that though, it also keeps us sane and true to ourselves. We all know how influential social media can be, so let’s start this conversation now.

Comparing ourselves to others, straight up, is not healthy. In fact it’s almost poisonous because we can get so caught up in what we’re not that we start to lose sight of who we are and what we already have. It pushes away any ounce of appreciation that we have for what we’ve been dealt! Let’s face it though, social media makes it so easy to be sucked down the black hole of comparison, so how do we prevent it?

I believe that when we lack self confidence we begin to compare ourselves to others. If one is truly confident then there’s no need to compare. At least that’s what I find personally when I’m going down that dark path. Instagram is the biggest culprit because although an image is worth a thousand words, 9/10 times it’s not the full picture. It’s posed, cropped, filtered and usually staged, so why do we feel the need to tell ourselves it’s real?

When I begin to compare myself or my work to someone else I try my very hardest to take a step back, put my phone away for a while and think about what I’m proud of myself for. It sounds conceited but when you’re in that state of mind, it’s really up to you to pull yourself out of it and realize that 1) you’re ENOUGH, 2) you have your own achievements to be proud of and 3) you should always choose collaboration over competition.

Confidence matters in more ways than you can imagine. It allows you to create to your full potential, work with others better and gets you noticed easier. The creative industry is about being yourself and showing your own unique creativity. It wouldn’t be any fun, or interesting for that matter, if everyone was doing the exact same thing. Be confident in the way that you pose, style, create, write, film and edit! You’ll save yourself a whole lot of time by not comparing yourself to others and being confident in your own skin.

I want to know what your thoughts are on this. Whether it’s a DM on Instagram, an email or a comment below I want to chat with you!

Paris Outfit Look Book

As many of you know, I traveled to Paris for the very first time this summer, so obviously I had to plan out my entire wardrobe from head to toe! Paris has been on the top of my travel bucket list for years so when I finally booked flights with my best friend I immediately went into excited planning mode. And when I say planning, I mean over-planning, but that’s just me naturally 🙂 So today I’m sharing what I wore in Paris and where you can find the pieces too! All of the items I wore will be linked below the images, happy shopping!

Day 1 – Exploring St. Germain

On our very first day in Paris we both arrived at the airport early in the morning (around 9am) so we had a full day ahead of us! I went for a girly but casual look with sneakers, a ruffled dress and straw bag. Boy, it was hot out! But this little number kept me cool because it was a really light material.

Blue Ruffled Dress

White Platform Sneakers

Straw Bag

Day 2 – Breakfast at Ladurée, Arc de Triomphe & Shopping

Our second day in Paris was a little better planned out than the first because we weren’t as tired and had a better idea of what we wanted to do. We started the day off with breakfast at Ladurée on the Champs-Élysées, walked over to the Arc de Triomphe for some photos and then spent the rest of the day shopping! I went with a floral print and heels on this day because I wanted to feel extra pretty for breakfast!

Floral Dress

White Kitten Heels

Day 3 – Galeries Lafayette & Eiffel Tower Picnic

Our last full day in Paris was spent doing more shopping (obvs) and ended off with a lovely picnic in front of the Eiffel Tower. I’ve never seen a bigger or more beautiful mall than Galeries Lafayette! Every level had tons of stores and you could say we went a little crazy in there 😉 Our picnic started off a bit rough because we weren’t in an ideal spot, but once we moved and found a better location to set up we didn’t want to leave! I did an outfit change between these activities, so look below to see the details!

White Tie Top (I can’t find this top so here’s a look alike)

Denim Skirt (This is also just a similar skirt because I bought mine a year ago!)

White Eyelet Dress

Although we didn’t spend much time in Paris, I was able to get a feel for the culture and style of the city. It was just as I expected and I can’t wait to visit again! Have you been to Paris? Share your favourite Paris activities/attractions or tourist spots below!

The Best Products for Clogged Pores

Summer has been hitting us hard with the humidity lately, especially in Vancouver, which means that the quality of our air isn’t as great as it could be and our skin is suffering in one way or another. The skin issue that bugs me the most is clogged pores because one, they cause unwanted tiny bumps on my face and two, they’re the worst surface to put makeup on (specifically matte products and highlighters).

When I run into this skin concern I use two very specific products and they seem to work pretty well! The morning after I use them my existing blackheads are gone and almost completely closed and the pores that were so open before are barely visable. Note: I have combination skin, the oiler parts being between my brows, nose and chin which is where most of my blackheads appear.

The first step to unclogging my pores is using a Micellar water. This helps remove leftover makeup and bacteria as well as provides a deep cleanse for my skin. The one that I’ve been using non-stop lately is the Bioré Charcoal Cleansing Micellar Water. The charcoal actually helps to reduce oiliness so it’s a win-win for me! I simply apply this water to a cotton pad and wipe it all over my face. They say that you don’t need to rinse after using this product but I actually prefer to when I have more clogged pores than usual.

Next up I like to use pore strips on my nose because that’s where most of my blackheads reside. I’ve probably tried 10 different brands of nose pore strips by now but the Bioré ones have proven to work the best for me. I really like the Charcoal Pore Strips because again, they pull out excess oil.

After I complete these two steps I apply my regular skincare routine and try not to wear makeup for a couple days!

What do you do to unclog your pores? Which products work the best for you? Please comment them below!

My Favourite Summer Looks

Every season brings a wave of new looks and this summer I’ve been seeing some of my favourite looks of all time! No joke. The trends that have surfaced this summer can be worn in their own unique ways, they’re not too over the top and are all affordable!

Below are my five favourite styles of the summer featuring some of the bloggers on IG that inspire me the most! Swipe over each photo for their Instagram handles! 🙂

Chunky Sneakers & Dresses

Pairing chunky sneakers with a mini dress have turned out to be one of the hottest looks this season. Who would’ve thought that these two completely opposite items could compliment each other?! If you’re not up for the full on chunky foot then you can try out platform sneakers instead.

Blazers & Shorts

This look brings a whole new vibe to shorts AND blazers! I personally love an oversized pair of shorts with a light boyfriend styled blazer.

Two Piece Sets

There’s nothing easier to pair than a matching set, am I right? 😉 Whether it’s monochromatic or floral, two pieces have proven to be an it item this summer.

Smocked Tops & Denim

This trend brings me back to the times when I would wear smocked dresses all summer long as a little girl. Smocked tops pair really well with denim which makes them super easy to style! They’re also usually one of the pieces that actually help keep you cool when it’s hot!

Tie Tops & Puff Sleeves

I love this tie top trend so much that I bought two of them in almost the exact same style! LOL. One is eyelet and the other is solid white 😉 I personally like this type of top in white because it can be worn in so many different outfits. Denim shorts, jeans and skirts all pair really well with tie tops.

Which one is your favourite trend of the summer?

Mexico Travel Diary

Last week I went on my very first vacation to Mexico and it was a wonderful and much needed get-away. My family and I stayed at the 5-Star Iberostar Resort in Playa Mita and although I haven’t been to many resorts, I can say that this was definitely one of the best I’ve seen. It truly felt like a 5-Star experience, especially because it was all-inclusive. Below are the highlights of my trip and experience at the resort. Hopefully if you haven’t been to Mexico before this will convince you to book your next vacation there 😉 It is seriously beautiful!

Let’s talk about what’s important first, the food! 😛 Since this resort was an all inclusive, anywhere we went we were able to order food and drinks without having to worry about holding money. There were two buffet style restaurants, one was extremely large and the other was a little smaller and closer to the pool. I expected the food to be sub-par as it was buffet style and all-inclusive, but the food was AMAZING! This definitely made our trip more enjoyable because the variety of food was very wide too. Everyday around noon one of the chefs would come out to the mini poolside hut and make either burgers, hotdogs, tacos or paella.

The highlight of my food experience here was the Japanese Teppanyaki. Honestly, I was nervous to eat sushi while in Mexico but it turned out to be very delicious and the show that our chef put on was marvellous!

The staff at the resort were all very helpful, friendly and involved! Majority of our days were spent poolside and there were always activities going on which made it super fun, especially for the younger kids. A few of the activities that went on during the day were water aerobics, salsa and meringue dance, biking, water volleyball, beach volleyball, and many more. The staff would even go up to everyone poolside and let them know what activities were happening next. This might seem easy but the resort was HUGE so it was a nice gesture for them to remind us what was going on.

The only service that disappointed me was room service. The very first time I ordered, a simple plate of chicken nuggets and fries and a brownie dessert, we waited 2 hours and then ended up cancelling it completely because it was getting too late. However when my cousin and her boyfriend ordered the exact same thing on a different night, theirs came in 15 minutes! So clearly there’s a bit of inconsistency with the room service timing.

This resort went above and beyond to provide amazing entertainment for all of its guests. Each evening there was a show in the theatre either in concert form or music/lip-syncing performance. The shows that we watched were themed Boogie Nights, Rock, Pop Love Songs and Las Vegas and they were each about an hour and a half long. The singers, dancers and band were extremely talented and every show was put on very well!

In addition to the shows, on a few of the evenings before the show times there would be a set up in the lobby with games and drinks that corresponded with whatever theme that nights show would be. On one of the evenings it was Mexican festival themed so there were multiple traditional games going on and a booth dedicated to tequila 😉 Another evening was Las Vegas themed so they had a “make your own cocktail” stand and poker games all around the lobby.

As soon as we walked into the lobby we were in awe of how beautiful the resort was and I really appreciated their attention to detail in the design. Throughout the entire building there were gorgeous pieces of furniture, light fixtures and art making it really feel like a 5-Star building. The views of the ocean were insane and at sunset there was enough seating and viewing points for everyone to watch. The pools were in the centre of the resort but a little closer to the beach so that there was easy access if you wanted to go down for a dip in the ocean.

Overall my stay at Iberostar was unforgettable and a fantastic first impression of vacationing in Mexico. I would 100% go again! If you have any specific questions regarding the resort please don’t hesitate to comment or contact me here!

My Go-To Gold Jewellery Pieces

When I first heard about Mejuri, a Canadian based luxury jewellery brand, I was still in my Tiffany & Co ONLY obsession. Every piece of my daily-wear jewellery was from Tiff & Co except for a few Pandora rings and it was all sterling silver, because I’m a simple gal (so I like to think) and didn’t want to own a hundred different pieces that I would barely wear…until I found Mejuri and my entire perspective of jewellery changed. I developed a love for gold pieces and the beautiful designs that the brand offered.

I remember following the brand on Instagram for a while as I was just starting up my blog and growing my Instagram portfolio and they were one of the first brands to reach out to me for a collaboration! I was in complete shock (good shock obvs) and extremely grateful for the opportunity so I said yes and a beautiful relationship formed 🙂

Each of the pieces in this post are truly special in their own ways and have a unique spot on my jewellery stand. I find myself going between my Tiffany & Co pieces and these gold pieces depending on my mood and outfit. However I still feel like I have a very simple jewellery collection, which is one of the things that I love about Mejuri. Their pieces have this ability to shine but in the most minimalistic way. It’s gorgeous!

Lotus Necklace

My very first piece was the Lotus Necklace which is made up of gold vermeil and a beautiful white sapphire stone. A very dainty but layer-able piece that I find myself wearing almost every day!

Layered Spheres Choker

Pictured below are both of the Mejuri necklaces that I own, the top being the layered spheres choker. I actually wear them both exactly like this! 😛 It’s also gold vermeil and extremely dainty which I really like in chokers.

Between Hoops

Before these earrings I really wasn’t a hoop wearing gal but I couldn’t pass up these beauties. What I love the most about them is that they’re flexible and not stiff like a lot of hoops, which makes it easier to put them on and take them off!

Trio Hoops

Out of all of my Mejuri earrings these are my FAVE! I absolutely love the simple link design and the way they dangle on my ear. They’re perfect for any outfit, casual to formal and they’re not too heavy!

Pearl Hoops

These cute hoops were actually the first earrings I received from Mejuri and they’re perfect in my opinion because one I love the gold and two they have mini pearls attached! They’re super great for layering on the ear and I like to pair them with my actual Tiffany & Co pearls.

If you’re interested in the brand you can click here to check them out, shop and get free shipping! I always want to be 100% honest with you babes on here though so I will let you know that for each purchase I’ll make a small commission. <3 Make sure that you see this at the top of your page when you’re shopping so that you can get that free shipping!

My Favourite Summer Bag Trends

Summer is literally right around the corner,  starting next week, so I’ve rounded up my favourite handbag trends for the season!

It’s safe to say that I’m a handbag addict, but I always try to get pieces that I know I’m going to use for years and years, AKA classics. I think that this season’s trends are pretty classic so I’ve already gone ahead and purchased a couple of them 😉

Woven Totes

This is a bag that I originally thought was strictly a beach bag, but now that I see hundreds of people styling them on the streets the idea of using the straw bag in the city is growing on me! I’ve gone ahead and purchased a little straw tote for those casual days out and it didn’t break the bank! You can shop this bag here.

Clear Totes

I’ve loved this trend since the first time I saw it and I think it’s really great because there are SO MANY styles available! I got my first clear bag for the summer from SheIn because I didn’t want to spend too much just in case the trend phases out quickly. You can shop the exact bag here.  I love this one because the handles are a beautiful wood and the drawstring bag inside is removable, making it a great option for the beach!

Small Top Handle Bags

I’ve had one of these for a few months now and I’m actually obsessed. They’re so convenient to carry around and if you buy the right one there’s actually quite a bit of room to fit your things! I got mine at Tory Burch which you can find here.

Net Market Totes

This is the most inexpensive trend I think I’ve ever heard of! Who would have thought that an everyday market carry-all would become a hot street style trend!? Nevertheless I think it’s super cool. Easy to carry a ton of stuff whether you’re actually grocery shopping or going to the beach and really light and portable! I bought mine here.

Beaded Bags

This one is still growing on me because in all honesty it reminds me of playing dress up as a little girl! I’m not sure if I’ll feed into this trend this summer but if you want to try it out, Zara has some great options right now!

What are your favourite summer bag trends? Share them in the comments! 🙂

Spring Brunch Outfit Ideas

One of my favourite pastimes during the Spring season is brunching! I love that it’s basically a breakfast date that lets you sleep in AND gives you a reason to dress cute 😉 It’s perfect for my schedule because I wake up early Monday to Friday and on Saturdays I get to sleep in a bit and make plans! So in honour of brunching here are a few cute and casual outfit ideas.

#1 Flowy Midi Skirt and Sweater

This is a trend we’ve been seeing quite a bit this season and I’m obsessed with it!! It’s the perfect combo for spring weather and even better for bloated tummies at brunch 😉 Pair this combo with sneakers or sandals and you’re good to go! H&M has some great flowy skirts right now and they always have basic sweaters that pair well. It’s my favourite place to shop at the moment!

#2 Mom Jeans and a Blouse

Another semi-casual but “nice enough for brunch” look, but also one of my personal favourites. You can never go wrong with basics right? I’ve started to realize that when I’m shopping nowadays I really only pick pieces that I know for a fact I’m going to wear multiple times and with many different outfits. Mom jeans are an essential and a white button up blouse is too! Slip on sandals or loafers look great with this look 🙂

#3 Trousers and an Oversized Sweater

Have you noticed the trend yet? Every outfit has some aspect of oversized or flowy-ness because we all know that brunching gets us bloated AF! Cigarette trousers and an oversized sweater are better for a more casual brunch, maybe at your local cafe, but nevertheless look amazing with a good handbag, pair of sunnies and flats or loafers!

#4 Sundresses

This is one closet item that I have yet to shop for this season because like I said above, I’m looking for pieces that I’ll wear multiple times and the floral dresses just aren’t it for me. I’m the type to wear a floral piece once or twice but then let it sit in my closet for months afterwards, so getting neutral coloured dresses is really important to me! However the floral trend going on right now is gorgeous and pairs really beautifully with sandals or mules. You could even get away with mid-calf boots!

#5 Matching Suit with White Sneakers

I’ve always wanted a matching colourful suit, maybe baby pink or blue because it pairs so nicely with a white t-shirt and white sneakers! It can be worn formally or casually and  really gives off that “put together” vibe.

Which outfit idea is your fave?!

Spring 2018 Accessory Trends

If you follow me on Instagram you know I’m all about the accessories and I just can’t keep my hands off of them! Whether it’s sunglasses, jewelry, scarves or bags, I love how any accessory can pull an entire look together. Even with the simplest clothing an accessory can make a huge statement!

I also love that even though accessory trends change, a lot of them seem to come back years after their first trending season! One perfect example from this year is the return of FANNY PACKS!! Of course the higher-end pieces are being called “belt bags” but let’s be real, fanny packs are back, and it’s AMAZING if you ask me.

Let’s dive into this Spring’s accessory trends, shall we?

Teeny-Tiny Sunglasses

Yup, you read that correctly. Miniature “matrix” sunglasses are making a statement this season and I can’t complain because I’ve got a few pairs myself, hah! We’ve seen them on the runways, celebs and influencers alike this season and it doesn’t look like they’re going anywhere anytime soon.

Shop Tiny Sunglasses: zeroUV, Verge Girl, ASOS

Structured Geometric Bags

We’re seeing a lot of structured, somewhat lunch-box looking bags both on the runway and in the streets this Spring! I personally love a good structured handheld bag so it’s a YAY for me!

Shop Structured Bags: Zara, TDE, ASOS

Baker Boy Hats

I feel like this has been a trend since Fall 2017….or is it just me? Either way the baker boy hat is looking like the perfect accessory to top of an outfit, get it 😉 These hats are being worn with dresses, jeans and even blazers too! Offered in a wide variety of materials, textures and patterns these hats are easy to pair.

Shop Baker Boy Hats: Topshop, ASOS, Forever 21

Belt Bags

As I mentioned in the beginning of this post, the fanny packs are in MAJOR action this season! I haven’t been able to get my hands on one just yet but they’re super convenient because they require no hands! They’re the perfect addition to any outfit, from dresses to pants, and make for a great compact bag for little on-the-go items.

Shop Belt Bags: Designer – Tradesy, Hudson’s Bay

Straw Bags

Why take a straw bag only to the beach when you can take it with you wherever you go?! These unique bags are super in this season, being worn not only in tropical destinations but also within the city! I haven’t invested in a small straw bag just yet because where I live (Vancouver, BC) it’s still pouring rain and it just doesn’t feel right to be carrying around a straw bag, you know?

Shop Straw Bags: Kembali Collective, Zara, Topshop

Statement Earrings

The tassel and bobble earrings have been big for quite a few seasons now and it looks like they’re being joined with more statement pieces, specifically minimalistic statement earrings (is that contradicting? Oh well.). For example, I’ve been seeing a lot of wire earring pieces in various shapes, like face silhouettes. I’m thinking of doing another post specifically on jewelry or earring trends so let me know if you want to see that in the comments below!

Shop Statement Earrings: Nina Kastens, ASOS, Zara

Layered Dainty Necklaces

One of my personal favourites is the dainty necklace trend because they’re simple yet add so much to a full look. One of my favourite shops for this type of necklace is Mejuri because the quality is fantastic and they have such a huge selection of styles! Not to mention, these dainty necklaces are easy to pair other jewelry like rings and earrings with as well.

Shop Dainty Necklaces: Mejuri, Shopevren, Verge Girl

What other accessory trends do you lovelies see circling around this season? I’d love to know so please feel free to share them in the comments below!
