C.O. Bigelow or Dior?

Chapped lips can be a real drag, and just like probably more than half of the people reading this write-up, I’ve tried about every chapstick brand out there. For the past few years I’ve been using a C.O. Bigelow rose salve from Bath & Body works. It works better than anything I’ve tried so far and doesn’t break the bank.

I noticed that I was running very low on my current rose salve so I purchased the Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping Balm from Dior Cosmetics. It cost me almost $30 more than the C.O. Bigelow one; it retails for 35 Canadian dollars at Sephora. I was looking for a new product to try out and the packaging was obviously a deciding factor too. The Dior balm is encased in a beautiful off-white plastic container with a CD logo on the front whereas the C.O. Bigelow balm comes in a bright pink tin container that gets scratched up in one drop.

I began using the Dior balm during my trip to California and I have to say it is not worth your money people! It has a very thick consistency therefore making it hard to apply and it didn’t moisturize my lips at all, in fact I think it made them worse. The Dior balm isn’t as clear as my other rose salve and I didn’t find that my lips were being plumped like it says in the name of the product. In comparison, the C.O. Bigelow balm is a smooth application, leaves my lips glossy, and definitely hydrates them all day long and even overnight.

If you’ve been wanting to try either of these products then I highly recommend the C.O. Bigelow balm over an expensive designer brand. This is proof that sometimes the cheaper products work even better than designer! I’ve left links to the two products right below if you’d like a more detailed description of each.

Update: 40-Day Shopping Cleanse

It’s been about 3 weeks already since I started my 40-day shopping cleanse and boy has it been hard! I’ll admit that I did cave a couple times, but not for anything extraordinarily big.

According to the “rules” of Lent, we are allowed to indulge in the things that we gave up for the 40 days of the preparation. One of my weak moments occurred on a Sunday so maybe it doesn’t count? I did feel a little guilty though. I bought myself the Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet fragrance. Like I said before I’m obsessed with perfume!! I did only get the smaller bottle though.

The perfect light and sensual floral scent with notes of Sicilian orange, peonies, Damascus rose, and white musk.

The only other thing that I caved in for was a mani-pedi. This felt necessary…! Yet I didn’t go for my usual acrylic mani and shellac pedi, I went with the simplest of combos and got regular nail polish on both hands and feet!

I still think I’m doing pretty well with my cleanse considering it’s been an entire 3 weeks and I haven’t stepped foot into the mall! I’ll keep you all updated on whether or not I stay strong for the remainder of my cleanse 😉 I’ll also be doing a post about the organization I’m donating too next week, so stay tuned for that! It’s a neat and great way to give back.

Xoxo,
