3 Staple Boots for Autumn

3 Staple Boots for Autumn

One of the main reasons that I love Autumn is all of the boots! Boots pair well with just about everything, especially if you’re picking versatile styles in neutral shades. They’re basically the only form of shoe that I wear during the fall season because it’s constantly raining here in Vancouver.

From ankle to knee, there’s a boot out there to fit everyone’s style and today I’m sharing which ones I’m currently obsessing over. They’re easy to style, comfy (once broken in of course) and timeless.

#1 ALDO Wiema Boot

You can NEVER go wrong with a black leather pointed toe boot, IMO. This pair in particular is the perfect style and height, ending just a couple of inches above the ankle. They were uncomfortable at first but after a few times out in them they hit a great comfort level! Shop here.

#2 ALDO Piralia Boot

If you’re looking for a brown boot this season, this is the pair! The chunkier heel makes them easy to walk in and the medium brown shade is definitely an IT colour this Autumn. Shop here.

#3 Le Chateau Pointy Toe Ankle Boot

White shoes will always be a staple for me and I find myself wearing these white boots almost every week. With a short kitten heel they actually feel quite comfortable and lengthen the wear-time. These ones go with any outfit too 😉 Shop here.

What’s your go-to boot this season?

Current Makeup Favourites

Current Makeup Favourites

Quite a few of you have been asking me on Instagram how I do my makeup and keep my skin glowing so today I’m sharing my current makeup faves! Part of the reason behind my glowing skin is natural oils because I do have combination skin, and the other is great products.

You all know that I love a natural look so the products I use are typically very light but provide decent coverage. I also tend to stick to the same routine just with different products! My everyday routine consists of the following:

  • tinted moisturizer (or none at all)
  • concealer (always)
  • pressed powder
  • eyebrow powder
  • mascara
  • blush
  • highlighter
  • lipbalm and lipstick

With that being said though, I don’t wear makeup every single day unless I’m shooting or going out. Giving my skin a break from time to time is probably also a factor in it staying smooth and bright. Below are the products that I’ve been using a lot lately.

Chanel Les Beiges Sheer Healthy Glow Moisturizing Tint

I’ve been using a sample of this tinted moisturizer almost every time I go out and I LOVE it! It’s super light, hydrating but gives the prettiest finish! It also smells amazing. I think I may actually buy the full size of this once I run out of my sample because it’s something I can see myself using quite a bit. I don’t wear foundation so this is a great alternative, plus it’s SPF 30! Shop here.

Screen Shot 2018-10-06 at 12.55.27 PM.png

Giorgio Armani Neo Nude Liquid Blush

Since my skin is already starting to get dry because of the colder weather I’m really liking liquid products and this blush from Armani beauty is perfect. I have Shade 50 which is a nice bubble gum pink but blends out to a natural rosy look. It applies easily almost like a liquid eye shadow and gives a great healthy cheek glow. Shop here.

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Powder

Since I have combination skin it’s important that I carry around a pressed powder to apply during the day to my shiny spots. This one from Chanel is so light but really works to cover up oil without the cakey look. Shop here.

Screen Shot 2018-10-06 at 1.04.02 PM.png

Marc Jacobs Creme Lipstick – No Angel

If you’re looking for the perfect nude and creamy lipstick, this is it. I like to apply lipbalm before putting this on for extra long wear. It never dries out my lips and applies basically like butter. Shop here.

Lancôme Hypnôse Volumizing Mascara

I cannot stop using this mascara! Out of all 8 in my collection I am constantly going to this one because of the volume and length it gives. It doesn’t clump , flake or smudge! This is definitely my #1 mascara. Shop here.

Minimal Bedroom Decor

Minimal Bedroom Decor

Since I recently moved into my new (and much larger) bedroom I’ve been trying to decorate and organize as minimally as possible. That means purging LIKE CRAZY, constantly moving everything and decorating in the simplest ways.

In my previous bedroom I had a lot of white and gold, but this time around I’m going for more natural materials and colours. I’m trying to get rid of most of the gold furniture and decor and bring in more browns and blacks. Let me tell you though, it has been SO difficult! I feel as if my mind is in a thousand places at once. With that being said though, I have managed to decorate a few parts of my room, so I want to share them with you today.

I personally love reading about and watching room renovations and interior design processes so if you do too then this post will be the perfect read. Let’s get started!

THE WORK CORNER

I went for a natural and modern looking chair and luckily I found this gorgeous IKEA one 40% off on Facebook Marketplace. In the corner I have different sized cylinder boxes with extra notebooks, moisturizers and camera gear, AKA things that I rarely pull out. On the left wall I also have my glass whiteboard from IKEA which I use to write out my daily to-do’s and things to remember. You can shop the chair here.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

THE CLOTHING RACK

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Since I have so many coats I decided to use them as a display item because 1) it saves closet space and 2) it adds some texture to the room! For a more aesthetic look I order my coats from dark to light. I got this IKEA rack for $20CAD, you can shop it here.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

THE ARTWORK

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I kept only the black DIY framed artwork from my last bedroom because like I said above, I’m trying to get rid of my gold. But it all fit perfectly on this shelf and above my mirror! You can get this picture ledge here and my mirror (not pictured) here. To find out how I created this DIY photo frames you can watch my tutorial here!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

THE SHELVING UNITS

This first shelving unit is a white metal frame with glass shelves, so I wanted to keep it as minimal as possible to really get the illusion of space. I hate clutter so I tried to only show items that provide usefulness or beauty to the shelf. The dark brown baskets are from IKEA and I got them to match my chair! The jewellery box and skincare holder are both from Marshalls Canada. You can find the baskets here.

This second shelving unit shown below is also from IKEA and I’m using it to display my favourite shoes of the season and a few books. I tried to show only brown and black items so that everything would match! You can find the shelving unit here.

THE WINDOW UNIT

The only items I will always have on this shelving unit in front of the window are these new vases from IKEA and a scented candle. Since this unit is reflective and in front of the window I wanted to keep it clean and plain. You can find the shelving unit here. Unfortunately I can’t find the vases online but I’m sure you’d be able to find them in-store.

THE CURTAINS

Since the room is so large I wanted to cover one of the windows to create a cozier environment. These ones from IKEA were totally inexpensive and really add something to the room. You can find the curtains here and the rod here.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

That’s it for my room decor! I’ve still got a few spots that I want to fill up but I’ll be sure to share with you when they’re complete.

My September Favourites

My September Favourites

As September is already coming to an end I thought I’d share what some of my favourite products were this month. From shoes to makeup, these are the items that I was constantly using and loving!

I really started to bring out my fall wardrobe this month, AKA LOTS OF BROWNS. I was also obsessing over pointed toe shoes, micro sunnies and some amazing hair care. Keep reading to find out all the deets on these pretty little things!

Cognac ALDO Mules

These mules have been a STAR in my wardrobe this month. I received them as a gift from ALDO in the summer and honestly only started loving them now because of their colour. They’re a wonderful fit, easy to walk in and match just about everything in my wardrobe. Find them here.

maudda_cognac_28_main_sq_gy_800x800.jpg

H&M Straight Cut Jacket

I picked up this gorgeous jacket from the H&M fall 2018 collection and have been LIVING in it, I swear. The colours are subtle with a hint of cognac, so obviously I paired them with the mules mentioned above! It’s also loose enough to fit a hoodie under and great for a casual outfit. Find it here.

Glen Check Collar Coat

I love a good coat and my bestie and I were so lucky to have been gifted this gorgeous one from Le Château! It’s not too light, not too heavy and the perfect checked pattern. The colours make it extremely versatile too! Find it here.

White Pointed Toe Ankle Boot

Half of my shoe collection is white, let’s be honest here. So it’s no surprise that these chic boots made their way into 70% of my outfits this month! I purchased mine last year from Payless Shoe Source so they’re no longer available, but you can find a similar pair here.

Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil

When this hair oil by Negin Mirsalehi first came out I could not bring myself to spend $84USD on it, so I waited until a smaller version was available. Let me tell you right now, I think it’s worth it. There are very few hair oils that actually work on my fine hair and this is one of them. It smells delicious, feels luxurious and doesn’t leave my hair greasy in the morning or after application on dry hair. The travel size was $45USD and you can find it here.

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask

You’ve already heard me rave about the product here, but I wasn’t lying when I said it was worth the hype! I use it EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT! You can shop it here.

Evening Skincare Routine

Evening Skincare Routine

You all know I’m a skincare junkie, I love buying, testing and reviewing products but that also means my routine is constantly changing. With the recent season switch and new products arriving all the time my evening routine has changed a little since I last shared it!

My evening routine is what helps me wind down after a busy or stressful day and it’s something that I NEVER forget to do. Even if I’ve had a couple drinks, even if I’m dead tired or not feeling well, I know that my evening care is what keeps my skin from freaking out.

I have a naturally oily face (in my t-zone) and normal in the other areas so I like to use gentle products. Below are my go-to skin treats in order of my routine! 🙂

  1. Marcelle 3-in-1 Micellar Solution – Oily Skin: I start my routine by removing all makeup with this water and a cotton pad. It’s amazing at getting (mostly) every bit off, even waterproof makeup! micellaire.jpg
  2. Olay Oily Minimizing Foaming Cleanser: I continue with this super gentle and non-drying foaming cleanser. I love it because you don’t need a ton of it for a good clean and it leaves your skin baby smooth. olay
  3. Rodan + Fields Unblemish Clarifying Toner: This is the only toner that I use because I find that it really helps to shrink my pores and give my skin a deep clean if there’s any leftover bacteria. untj125-unblemish-clarifying-toner-lg
  4. Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate: I received this serum as a gift 3 months ago and haven’t stopped using it since. I’m even going to buy the serum in-store once I run out. That’s how AMAZING it is! I honestly believe that this serum is what prevents breakouts and keeps my skin hydrated and plump 24/7. 3605533117217_1.7OZ_ADVANCEDGENIFIQUE
  5. Summer Fridays Jetlag Mask: I now use this mask as an overnight under-eye treatment because it visibly reduces my dark circles in the AM! It’s also very hydrating which is going to be great during these dryer fall and then winter months. s2071322-main-zoom
  6. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: I hate having chapped lips so I always apply this last and right before I sleep. It’s a really nice thick consistency and smells like fruity bubblegum! I wake up with SUPER moisturized lips every time. zoom_263e9a674cf11988b0edd6af94da81dd41db8879_1520356136_33733_Laneige_LipSleepingMask_Classic_WEB

4 Ways to Feel Your Best Throughout the Day

4 Ways to Feel Your Best Throughout the Day

We all know that some days are just better than others, but with a few tweaks in our daily schedules it’s possible to feel healthy and refreshed even on our busiest days. Whether it’s an early morning workout, a cup of herbal tea, or a few minutes of meditation there are so many ways to improve how you’re feeling during the day.

Below are little life hacks that you can add to your day to ensure that you’re always feeling your best!

  1. Drink naturally infused water throughout the day. Lemon water in particular is great for flushing out toxins and providing a boost of energy. If you get through the day without drinking sugary beverages, you’ll feel much better and more awake!
  2. Start your morning off with cardio. Even before you go to grab your breakfast, make it a goal to start your day off with a run or a skip rope session. By doing this you’ll feel more awake, hungry for breakfast (if you’re not a morning person), and ready to take on the day. It’s also nice to start your day off with a shower, so working out in the AM fits perfectly into that schedule.
  3. Use a clarity or focus spray before doing work. My bestie recently got me the Saje Mental Alertness Spray and I can’t stop using it! A few sprays of this helps to clear my mind and allows me to focus on my work longer.
  4. Put your devices away while eating. If you’re going to have a lunch break mid-day, put your phone or laptop aside and let yourself relax while you eat. Even if it’s just 15 minutes of silence and eating, it’ll help your brain to re-focus and you’ll be more productive afterwards.

How do you stay feeling your best throughout the day? Share in the comments below!

How I Edit My Instagram Photos

How I Edit My Instagram Photos

I thought it was about time that I write an updated post on how I edit my Instagram photos because it’s been a while and my process has definitely changed a bit. So for those of you wondering how I keep a consistent aesthetic and make my pics look the way they do, keep reading! 🙂

My personal style has always been simple, neutral and classic (in my opinion) in terms of clothing and accessorizing, so all that has changed since my last post is my style of photography and editing. I’ve transitioned to more professional photography rather than iPhone and switched the filter that I use. I really love the filter that I currently use on VSCO, M5, because it gives me the ability to create either a warm or cool image and it’s very natural looking.

Let’s dive into this editing process!

Step 1: Capture the shot with my Olympus E-PL8 and 17mm f1.8 lens. I love using this camera and lens for flatlays and close up shots because it really captures full details and textures. For farther away shots, landscape or interior shots I like to use my 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 lens! Occasionally I will shoot with my iPhone 7 Plus, but only if there’s proper indirect daylight (never in shadows or direct sunlight). Using my camera for majority of my photography really helps with keeping consistent quality imaging on my page.

Step 2: Use the Snapseed app to edit brightness, ambience, highlights, shadows, structure and sharpness of the photo. I don’t have a specific number for these tuning edits because I believe each image is different and because I have a natural(ish) looking page I like to edit depending on what the raw image looks like.

Step 3: Use VSCO to add filter M5 and sharpen. I use this app to simply filter and pull out further details in the image. I don’t use the tuning options in VSCO because I feel that the image ends up being grainy most of the time. By using the same filter on every photo, my feed stays consistent and cohesive. I usually keep the strength of the filter between 5-8 on my images.

Special Apps

Photoshop Mix: Occasionally I will need to photoshop out a garbage can or person in the background, so for that I use the “Fill” feature on the Photoshop Mix app. It’s super easy for tiny removals!

Facetune 2 (free version): If I ever need to de-colour something bright in an image I use the Black & Whitening feature on Facetune. I love this feature because I can choose the strength of it which comes in handy if you just want to make a colour dull rather than grey.

AirBrush: If I need to remove small things like cigarette butts or dirt on the ground of an image I use the “Acne” feature on AirBrush to remove it! I find it more convenient than using Photoshop Mix because it’s such a tiny task.

This is my full editing process so if you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments!

Summer Fridays Review: Overtime Mask

Summer Fridays Review: Overtime Mask

I’m back with yet another face mask review, and once again it’s a trending Summer Fridays mask 😉 I wasn’t going to purchase this (like I said with the Jet Lag Mask as well), but I thought why not, it’s pumpkin scented, it’s fall and I do love a good mask LOL.

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

This mask has a different mission and benefits than the Jet Lag mask so I’ve shared a few more details about it below before we dive into the review!

Mask Goal: Exfoliate & Hydrate

Key Ingredients: Pumpkin, Apricot Seed Powder, Oat Kernel Protein, Vitamin E

How it’s supposed to work: This mask is supposed to gently rub off dead skin cells to smooth the skin’s surface and brighten the skin’s complexion.

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

Review

I used this mask per the instructions written on the back to make sure that I got the best results. I cleansed my face with an everyday face wash, pat dried it and then applied a thick layer of the Overtime mask. I let it sit on my skin for about 10 minutes and then rinsed it off.

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

Applying it was easy and even though there are tiny exfoliating pieces, my sensitive skin had no negative reaction to it. It never once stung or irritated the skin, which is something that I was originally worried about! I think that the all natural ingredient list had something to do with how well it worked on my sensitive skin. It also smells delicious which is a huge bonus! My mom said it smelled like a “thanksgiving dessert” and I totally agree LOL.

After removing the mask my skin was left feeling baby smooth AND hydrated. Often with exfoliating masks my skin tends to feel dry afterwards, but not with this one. It felt truly renewed and fresh and I could visibly see how smooth it was too.

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

I applied my jet lag mask right after along with the rest of my skincare routine and the next morning my face was glowing and felt brand new. When applying makeup I could really tell the difference of having those dead skin cells removed, because my creamy products applied so much easier.

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

The Best Volumizing Products for Flat Hair

The Best Volumizing Products for Flat Hair

If you’ve got naturally flat, limp, or oily hair then these products I’m about to share are definitely for you. I too have naturally straight and flat hair, which makes it hard to hold a good hairstyle for longer than an hour. After using these two products though, my hair was super voluminous and had insane body!

The first product that I use right after towel drying my hair, is the Briogeo Blossom & Bloom Volumizing Spray. I spray this in my roots, in all areas of my scalp and massage it in a little with my fingers. The ginseng and biotin in this product help to soak up oil from the scalp, therefore giving it more volume and thickening the hair! (It really works you guys!)

I then follow up with the Rosarco Blow Dry Perfection and Heat Protectant Crème from root to tip. This creme is super lightweight and does all kinds of good for the hair. It smoothes, de-frizzes, enhances shine and protects against heat damage of up to 450F degrees.

The very first time I used these products together my jaw actually dropped when I looked in the mirror. After doing a full blow dry of my hair, it was insanely voluminous and stayed that way during my entire evening out.

The best part was that my hair felt natural, not as if I had just pumped a ton of product into it. That’s what I love about Briogeo though, their ingredients are effective but give truly natural looking and feeling results. They’re also 6-Free Hair Care! No sulfates, silicones, phthalates, parabens, dea or artificial dyes. AND they’re cruelty free.

I have quite a few other products from the brand that I’d love to share about if you’re interested, so let me know in the comments below! Do you want to see a hair care tutorial? 😉

Fall 2018 Fashion Trends

Fall 2018 Fashion Trends

It’s almost fall so I thought it was good timing to go over this year’s fall fashion trends! This is one of my favourite posts to write and research for because I get to go over everything that was seen on the fashion runways as well as the street style of bloggers, influencers and celebrities attending these shows! This year we’re really seeing a mix of everything. From pink suits to kira-kira shimmer inspired outfits and prairie style dresses to clueless plaid, these trends are definitely for everyone! So let’s get right into it, shall we?

Trend #1 – HOT PINK!

I’ve never seen so many pink suits! They’re HUGE in store trends right now, especially Zara and Topshop, and they’re also hot on the runway. We saw them a lot on the Spring and Summer runways and we’re seeing them come out again for fall. I’m not mad about it, how about you? I’m actually considering buying a matching pink pant suit for fall… 😉

hot pink

Trend #2 – Clueless Plaid

If you’re going to wear plaid, you might as well go all out and wear some colour too! This year the bright coloured plaid (inspired by movie Clueless) is making a huge comeback. Matching sets of this vibrant pattern can be found in almost every trendy store, and certainly on the city streets being worn by your local bloggers and influencers.

Trend #3 – Leopard or Cheetah Print

If you asked me to decipher between the two of them when looking at a pattern, I really wouldn’t know the difference. However, whatever it actually is, animal print is IN this fall. Not only are we seeing neutral animal print though, designers are bringing out colourful, even neon, prints!

Trend #4 – Colourful Eyewear

We’ve gone through the tiny sunglasses trend, and now we’re on to coloured lenses. Tinted lenses are the latest and greatest accessory, and I personally think they really add something to a plain outfit!

Trend #5 – Blazer Dresses

I think this has been a trend for a few months already, as I’ve been seeing it again and again on the gram, but it’s definitely going to continue to be a hit during the fall months. They’re super easy to style too! Throw on an oversized blazer, wrap a belt around your waist, pair it with some sock boot heels and you can call it a day!

Trend #6 – Latex & Plastic

It’s a pretty convenient trend if you ask me – said the blogger from rainy Vancouver. During New York fashion week we saw more patent pieces than ever on the runway! Patent skirts, pants, dresses and coats are all the rave for fall, AND they’re waterproof, how handy!

Trend #7 – Brown

I feel as if this colour already naturally makes its way into our autumn wardrobes, but NYFW has just confirmed it. All shades of brown are in this season, so grab the cutest pieces you can find in this colour now before they’re all gone!

Trend #8 – Tweed

It was here last year for fall and winter, and now its back. Who are we kidding though, doesn’t everyone love a good tweed blazer? It’s the perfect balance between chic and cozy! You’re going to be seeing a lot of tweed blazer and skirt sets and jackets this season.

fall_winter_2018_2019_fashion_trends_tweed_clothing

What do you think is going to be ON TREND this fall?
