2019 Spring Fashion Trends

It’s that time of year again to share all that 2019 has to offer in the fashion world! This Spring we’re going to be seeing some old and some new. From butterflies to powder blue, there’s lots to be excited for this year.

Each season comes with a set of trends that have repetitively walked the runways at fashion weeks all over the world. I’ve rounded up some of the most exciting trends down below. You should be seeing these styles roll into your local clothing stores very, very soon.

#1 Biker Shorts

This one isn’t news to us because we’ve been seeing them all over since Summer ’18. The biker short trend is here to stay. Personally I could never find a pair that fit super well and made me comfortable enough to wear out in public. But if you’ve got a pair already, there’s no need to shove them in the back of your closet anytime soon.

#2 Powder Blue

A big colour this Spring will be the gorgeous powdery, baby blue. I love this colour because it can be worn in so many different ways, from daytime to evening! Even if it’s just in the form of a silk scarf, this powder blue will definitely be an “it” colour on the street.

#3 One Shoulder Tops

Even though we’re a couple months out from being able to bare one shoulder, you can get excited now about all the cold shoulders you’ll be serving this Spring ๐Ÿ˜‰

#4 Plastic

Here in Vancouver, we get rain until late May, so I’m happy about this Spring trend! Expect to see a lot of “plastic” coats and pants this upcoming season.

#5 Fringe

Although it’s not a personal favourite of mine, fringe will be back this Spring. I do have to say though, it was executed well on the runways last year!

#6 Tie Dye

Clearly it’s going to be a very colourful year! I cannot believe tie dye is back!! I know some people who are going to be very happy about this.

#7 Puff Shoulders

I’ll be honest, even though the puffed shoulder look is outrageous, I’m obsessed with it and even wear it myself. It doesn’t seem like something you’d wear for a day out in the city, but if styled correctly, it can look super chic. You’ll feel so stylish that you won’t even care that people are staring LOL.

#8 Print

Prints are in, but not just animal prints this time! This upcoming season we’ll be seeing a lot of different floral and geometric prints strut the streets.

Which trends are you excited for this Spring?

What 2018 Taught Me

What 2018 Taught Me

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you were all able to celebrate NYE in your favourite way last night!

As the new year quickly started approaching this past weekend, I found myself constantly reflecting on 2018; the good, the bad and the ugly. So today I’d like to share some of the things last year taught me.

Some of them will sound silly to you because maybe you’ve already learned these things on your own journey but each of these things stood out to me this year. Whether it was through a good or bad experience, travel, or having to let something go, this is what 2018 taught me…

  1. Communication is everything in a relationship and the way I communicate with others will affect any outcome. Communicating in a positive, calm and caring nature is always best.
  2. Faith is important. My faith in my abilities and my faith in God were tested this year in multiple ways and I’ve come out of it understanding that faith is absolutely necessary, in the good times and the bad.
  3. Material things only promise temporary happiness. There were points this year where I felt like I had everything I needed materially and when that that happenedย  I started to really focus more on what truly matters; family, friends, love and happiness. These are the blessings that keep on giving.
  4. Sticking true to your values makes you who you are. I met some people this year who had completely different views on human dignity and life values and at points I questioned my own thinking they weren’t “the norm”. I realize that everyone has their differences but sticking true to your values does make you who you are.
  5. Quality over quantity, always. This lesson was taught to me mainly through friendships this year.
  6. Life should not be rushed. Since I was little I’ve been a planner but this year taught me that not everything needs to run on a schedule. There should be room for uncertainty and spontaneity.
  7. When one door closes, another one always opens, but not always right away.
  8. There will always be something great on the other side of my comfort zone.
  9. Comparison is never positive. Self-belief conquers comparison to others.
  10. Relationships are not always smooth sailing. Yes we all think we know this when getting into a relationship, but until a relationship is tested you can’t truly understand it. I’ve learned that issues are best solved together and head on rather than left alone and “let go”. They’re never really let go..
  11. A caring helping hand will always work better than an ambitious and aggressive helping hand.
  12. How much money I make does NOT define me.
  13. Passions are meant to be pursued. I pursued mine in 2018 and I have no regrets. I hope everyone learns this lesson some day.
  14. I am always a work in progress. The best version of me will continue to be a work in progress until the day I die.
  15. Good things take time, sometimes a long time.
  16. Self care and pampering is not something to be ashamed of.
  17. It is difficult to love someone else if I do not love myself first. I only just realized this within the past few months actually.
  18. Traveling is a great way to open your mind and make changes.
  19. Working out for the feeling afterwards motivates me more than working out for a better appearance.
  20. Uncertainty is healthy and normal. There is no “book of life” that sets you on one straight path.

What’s something that 2018 taught you?

7 Ways to Start Off the New Year Right

7 Ways to Start Off the New Year Right

As clichรฉ as it sounds, the New Year is certainly the right time to start working on those things you said you’d do a while back…and never did. It’s the best time to start fresh and focus on what’s really important in your life.

You probably already have a list of “goals for 2019” and that’s always a good thing, but you should definitely have a game plan as well! After all, you do want to check off those goals right?

Think of the new year as a new day. You don’t want to start your day off slowly and without a task-list! It’s always best to start the day with a clear mind, a clean workspace and a task list that will keep you going! So that’s what this post will help you do to start off 2019 the right way ๐Ÿ™‚

#1 Clean up your home/workspace/bedroom.

Clutter is not welcome in 2019! Get rid of old papers, unwanted clothing, shoes and random items around your home and workspace.

#2 Get your budget straightened out.

Figure out and finalize your weekly and monthly budget! You’ll step into 2019 prepared and ready to take on those bank statements.

#3 Create a workout schedule.

If one of your goals is to live a healthier lifestyle or workout more often, be specific and make a proper schedule so it actually happens. Make sure you create your workout schedule before the New Year starts. This will prevent you from saying “I’ll start tomorrow”, “I’ll start next week”, and so on.

#4 Detox.

Another part of living a healthy lifestyle is eating well. Detoxing right before or during the start of the New Year will get you in the right mindset to better your eating habits. This could be a one week diet cutting out sugar and processed foods, or it could even be a juice cleanse!

#5 Do a yearly review.

This one is a little time consuming but will leave you feeling confident about your new year goals. Review the past year and figure out what worked and didn’t work for you, socially, personally, health-wise, work-wise, etc. Ask yourself some of these questions:

Why didn’t I reach (x) goal last year?

What did I cut out that made me happier?

How did I improve my health?

What went well for me last year?

How did I improve my relationships?

#6 Finish what you started.

I feel like we all have a to-do list in the back of our mind that never actually gets checked off. If you’ve got one of these and the tasks can be completed within one day or maybe even a few hours, dedicate one full day to them. These tasks are usually centered around the following:

  • house chores
  • repairs (home, clothing, shoes)
  • car (oil change, brake check, clean)
  • purge/donate unwanted items

#7 Create a list of daily habits.

Think of a few small tasks that you want to accomplish each day and keep the list handy. It could be drinking 2L of water per day, working out for 30 minutes, or even praying for 10 minutes every morning!

How will you be starting 2019 off right? What are some of your goals for the New Year?

xoxo,

Holiday Gift Guide | Boyfriend Edition 2018

Gift giving season is upon us and if you’re a last minute shopper like me, then here are 15 gift ideas for your hubby!

I honestly find getting gifts for guys the most difficult. Whether it’s my Dad or my boyfriend, nothing I see in store or online seems good enough to give! So I’ve done some of the heavy lifting and figured out what’s trending for guys this year.

Hopefully this will help you pick out a gift that’s perfect for your man. Maybe he even needs some of these items! ๐Ÿ˜‰ #winwin

Portable Charger

You can’t go wrong with a portable charger and you’re in luck this year if your boyfriend doesn’t have one already! Here are a few popular ones:

Screen Shot 2018-12-11 at 8.47.56 AM.png

Portable Charger Anker PowerCore 20100mAh

AUKEY 20000mAh Portable External Battery Charger Power Bank

Portable Charger, Xiaomi Mi Slim Power Bank Pro 10000mAh

Virtual Reality Device

If you’re looking for an out-of-the-box gift idea, this is definitely one of them. The VR devices today can get pretty pricey, but if you’re on a budget then this soft Google device will do the trick and save you some bucks.

GoPro Google OEM Daydream View, VR Headset

Slippers

Guys will wear the sh*t out of their at-home slippers (I’ve seen it firsthand) so why not get him a brand new pair? Maybe even splurge a little bit and get him UGGS!

uggs.jpg

UGG Men’s Scuff Slipper

Sunglasses

This can be a tricky gift to give, but a great one nonetheless if you know what style of sunglasses your BF likes. I think that Raybans are always a safe option! Below is a little bit of inspo for you!

I don’t know about you but my boyfriend doesn’t wear gloves when it’s cold at. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t have any, or maybe he just doesn’t care LOL. Either way, a pair of gloves is a useful and thoughtful gift to give!

How to Give Back This Christmas

How to Give Back This Christmas

Christmas is all about love and although there are many different things going on during the holidays, giving back should definitely be on your bucket list. Not everyone is as fortunate to be surrounded by loved ones, receive gifts or even have a Christmas meal around this time of year. Giving back is a wonderful way to spread happiness and positivity to others. So I’ve put together a list of ways that you can give back within your local communities this season.

There are so many ways to give back and they’re not always right in front of your eyes. It’s the lonely seniors waiting for visitors on Christmas Eve or a child waking up to no presents on Christmas morning that are often overlooked. Through these ways of giving back, we can share some Christmas joy with them this year.

  1. Bake treats for your neighbours or a local shelter. I always love to bake at Christmas time because it feels extra special. Baking for a local soup kitchen or shelter will feed hungry people and hopefully give them that warm and fuzzy feeling when they see homemade cookies and treats!
  2. Donate money to your local women’s shelters or for youth in need. Do a bit of research before you choose the charity you donate to. Try to choose one that really resonates with you. Maybe you know a few youth that are currently struggling, or a single mother who needs a bit of help. Don’t just donate what you can though. Service is about sacrifice, so try giving a little more than what’s in your budget.
  3. Visit your local seniors homes. Every year my family visits the seniors home that my great grandmother resided in. We sing carols and dance with the seniors and the smiles on their faces are what make it all worth it. Many seniors are left alone during the holidays and many of them don’t actually have family to visit with. Stay a while, have a cup of tea and get to know some of the seniors in your community. Maybe you’ll even spark a friendship ๐Ÿ™‚
  4. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. If you really want to get hands on this holiday season, contact a local soup kitchen and ask when the best time is for you to visit and help serve the hungry.
  5. Donate toys and clothing. Find a local charity that gives back to less fortunate women, children and families and donate a box of new (or even gently used) clothing and toys.
  6. Coordinate a food drive in your neighbourhood. Almost everyone has canned food in their home. Walk or drive around your neighbourhood collecting canned food! There’s probably more than one organization in your community that accepts these food donations and distributes them over the holiday season.
  7. Visit children in the hospital. So many children spend their holidays in the hospital and don’t get the Christmas experiences that they deserve. It’s easy to visit your local hospital and bring a few toys (new or used) down to the children’s wing. Maybe bring a couple board games and play with them too!

For my local Vancouverites, below is a list of local charities and organizations that you can help out this season:

Greater Vancouver Food Bank

Blanket BC

Union Gospel Mission

Covenant House

Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau

How I Edit My Instagram Photos

How I Edit My Instagram Photos

I thought it was about time that I write an updated post on how I edit my Instagram photos because it’s been a while and my process has definitely changed a bit. So for those of you wondering how I keep a consistent aesthetic and make my pics look the way they do, keep reading! ๐Ÿ™‚

My personal style has always been simple, neutral and classic (in my opinion) in terms of clothing and accessorizing, so all that has changed since my last post is my style of photography and editing. I’ve transitioned to more professional photography rather than iPhone and switched the filter that I use. I really love the filter that I currently use on VSCO, M5, because it gives me the ability to create either a warm or cool image and it’s very natural looking.

Let’s dive into this editing process!

Step 1: Capture the shot with my Olympus E-PL8 and 17mm f1.8 lens. I love using this camera and lens for flatlays and close up shots because it really captures full details and textures. For farther away shots, landscape or interior shots I like to use my 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 lens! Occasionally I will shoot with my iPhone 7 Plus, but only if there’s proper indirect daylight (never in shadows or direct sunlight). Using my camera for majority of my photography really helps with keeping consistent quality imaging on my page.

Step 2: Use the Snapseed app to edit brightness, ambience, highlights, shadows, structure and sharpness of the photo. I don’t have a specific number for these tuning edits because I believe each image is different and because I have a natural(ish) looking page I like to edit depending on what the raw image looks like.

Step 3: Use VSCO to add filter M5 and sharpen. I use this app to simply filter and pull out further details in the image. I don’t use the tuning options in VSCO because I feel that the image ends up being grainy most of the time. By using the same filter on every photo, my feed stays consistent and cohesive. I usually keep the strength of the filter between 5-8 on my images.

Special Appsย

Photoshop Mix: Occasionally I will need to photoshop out a garbage can or person in the background, so for that I use the “Fill” feature on the Photoshop Mix app. It’s super easy for tiny removals!

Facetune 2 (free version): If I ever need to de-colour something bright in an image I use the Black & Whitening feature on Facetune. I love this feature because I can choose the strength of it which comes in handy if you just want to make a colour dull rather than grey.

AirBrush: If I need to remove small things like cigarette butts or dirt on the ground of an image I use the “Acne” feature on AirBrush to remove it! I find it more convenient than using Photoshop Mix because it’s such a tiny task.

This is my full editing process so if you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments!

Summer 2018 Mood Boards

Summer 2018 Mood Boards

I’m constantly searching for inspiration, through Instagram, Pinterest, other people’s style and the little things that pass by in my everyday life, so I thought that for this summer I’d make a few mood boards to tie all of that inspiration up into single pages.

Mood Board:ย an arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc., intended to evoke or project a particular style or concept.

This was my very first time creating them and it was super exciting and inspiring! It felt good being able to get an aesthetic of my thoughts onto an actual “board” (mine were digital). It was almost like my thoughts were coming to life, you know? Here’s the process that I went through to create the boards…

  1. I started out on Pinterest searching for fashion looks, makeup looks, colours and textures that I had in mind for a particular concept and saved them into a private pin board.
  2. I then opened up a word document and started downloading the Pinterest images to my desktop.
  3. Arranging the images was the trickiest part but as soon as I let go of the thought of making everything perfect I was able to work faster and I was definitely more relaxed.
  4. Once all of my images covered a page I saved the document as a PDF and voila! The mood boards were done.

Since I’ll be travelling this summer I created mood boards that incorporated the style, colours and textures that I’d like to wear on my trips. One of my mood boards is also an inspirational board for my everyday summer style in my home city, can you guess which one it is? ๐Ÿ˜‰ (Hint: almost everything is the same colour!)

I highly recommend creating mood boards for yourself because not only is it a great way to stay inspired but I also feel like it’s a stress reliever. There’s something really satisfying about creating your own mood pieces ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are my final boards! I might event print them out and create a mood board in my room but I’ll show that in another post if I do.
