Growing up I always loved going to the dentist (strange right) but I did! I was very keen on keeping my teeth clean and I can’t even remember the last time that I was told I had a cavity. But although I was good at flossing and brushing, there was one thing that I was always self-conscious about. Off-white teeth! I was never told that there was anything wrong, and often my dentist would tell me that it was just my genes. Yet it kept bugging me, because who wants to smile for photos with teeth if they’re not pearly white and pretty?!
One day I decided to do something about it, I researched DIY tricks to whiten teeth and I tried some of my Dad’s whitening strips….but nothing noticeable happened. Last year I finally got a routine down that WORKS and not only that but it’s cheap too!
1.Crest 3D White – Whitening Strips. There’s no need to spend $60 on the express packs though! I’ve found that using the “Class Vivid” strips work just as great. Plus they go on sale at Shoppers Drugmart quite often for $25! Only use the express packs if you don’t have a lot of time to whiten.
I use these only every few months though, they come in a box of 12 packs (including upper & lower teeth strips in each pack). You only need to apply them for 30 minutes for 12 days! How easy is that, right? TIP: Apply them right before bed after you’ve brushed your teeth with the products below.
2.Floss. I probably sound like your dentist, “Don’t forget to floss your teeth!!” But I’ve realized that it’s vital to do in order to keep my teeth clean and white. Flossing removes hidden and tucked away bacteria that might not be removed when brushing. It takes less than one minute!
3.Colgate Whitening Toothpaste OR Crest 3D White “Luxe White” Toothpaste. Using a whitening toothpaste every morning and night will amp up your pearly whites and ensure that they stay that way for a while! At night I usually brush my teeth with just this toothpaste before applying my whitening strips.
4.Crest Brightening Toothpaste. It probably sounds weird, but yes I brush my teeth two times in a row with different pastes. In the morning after I brush with the 3D White Luxe Toothpaste I move on to this one! Since my teeth are already clean at this point, the secondary paste is to enhance the white and brighten my teeth. I don’t recommend this for people with very sensitive teeth though, it may or may not cause more sensitivity!
If you have any tips and tricks for whitening your own teeth let me know! I would love to hear about your own routines and maybe try them out!
